I mixed a Newsboyz show in Victoria, TX Saturday night. I had to mix from the side of the stage, which usually results in less-than-ideal sound, because I can't hear what I'm mixing from the audience point of view. It was "o.k.". I can usually make it work, but it hammered home the necessity of properly advancing the gig and making sure the client and the people at the venue understand that there needs to be a sound console in some sort of reasonable position (ability to hear the sound system) in order to ensure a quality experience.We do these kinds of shows all the time and we strive to give the clients the highest quality, both for their benefit and the projection of a quality product that is so instrumental in getting us re-booked for future events.

The Newsboyz were at Johnny Fins Friday night. The level of Lake Travis is so far down that they moved the floating restaurant/bar/club/marina around the corner into the deeper part of Hearst Harbor cove. This is actually a benefit for customers arriving in boats. because there is quite a bit more water clearance when approaching on a boat from the lake.Photos at this link:

The Newsboyz played at Cool River Cafe Thursday night for "Ladies Night". It was a packed house as usual. Cool River hired me to install a new dbx DriveRack speaker management system and tweak it out using the SMAART acoustic analysis program. They also added some disco lighting and replaced an 18" speaker that had been blown for some time. Their sound system now sounds better than it has in months, if not years.Photos from Ladies Night at Cool River are here:

I had two shows with The Sophisticates this weekend, Thursday night at Cool River and Saturday at Johnny Fins. So far, I'm actually off for the Fourth of July, which will be the first time in a few years. I get to spend time with my family and go to the great fireworks show at Austin Country Club. We had a small screening of "Wake Up, Herbert" at Austin Studios before sending it off to several film festivals. Those attending were mainly production crew and their friends or spouses. Kat Candler, producer and director of Jumping Off Bridges, was present as well.I snapped off a few shots of the participants:
