I was back out at Carlos & Charlie's again Saturday night, this time providing sound for The Sophisticates. I had thought that the croud would be light due to the U.T. vs. Ohio game, but they had several t.v. sets set up ad there were a good number of people already out there watching the game. U.T. lost and the mood was mildly somber - for about thirty seconds! A good time was had by all and some had too much of a good time (as usual out there). There were definitely some photos I took that will have to remian private for the time being. They won't do anyone any good in promoting any of our business pursuits. Here are the photos I can show you:Sophisticates photos from Carlos & Charlie's 09-09-06
I also made a multitrack recording of the show to be used as demo material and for evaluating the performance in order to improve the show even more.

I mixed the third show in the Dell City Limits series of lunchtime shows for Dell employees at their Parmer North campus. My other engineer, Richard Belisle, has been mixing concurrent shows at the Dell Round Rock campus. This Friday it was The Derailers. They have been around for years, performed at the Grand Ole Opry, had their music played in the space shuttle, as well as other noteworthy musical accomplishments. They put on a great show and the Dell employees enjoyed it immensely.Photos from Deraliers show at Dell

O.K., I finally got the photo I had been trying to take for the last few times we played at Cool River (see inset). We skipped the live video feed to the screens, because of NFL and when that was over we just played two different motion graphics logo DVDs on the screens. I was able to use this as a backdrop for the silhouette of Rick against the video screens. He gets up on the partition separating the dancefloor seating and the pool table area to sing a couple of songs and I had been trying to get him to line up against the screen for this shot for about a month. Here's some other photos from that night:

After the Dell City Limmits show I headed over to Merkaba Grill to set up a sound system and mix Funky Brass Factory at Merkaba Lounge & Grill. They are a eight-piece band with horns and TWO female singers. They play a wide variety of material from funk to disco to mellow ballads, all suitable for dancing and having a good time in general. The load-in (and out) to this place is pretty tough. I have to practically build a "deck" out back to be able to roll everything in the back door, because of the severe differences between the level of the parking lot curb and the back door. This is probably my only complaint, other than the need for some acoustical treatment in the club, itself. The food is pretty good and the croud is still developing, due to the club having been open only a few months. I had done a previous show there with The Newsboyz and I think the future of this place is promising.Photos from Funky Brass Factory at Merkaba Grill

Friday, I mixed Vallejo at the second in the series of lunchtime concerts at Dell. These performances were put on by Dell for their employees. I think this is a great idea that other companies should implement right away!Photos of Vellejo at Dell lunchtime show
